In Tea in Te Kuiti the three musicians from the Pioneers, try to answer the question of why they left beautiful New Zealand so as to settle in the UK. By looking at the lives of their ancestors from the early 20th century, they bring to life the experiences of those who built the foundations of New Zealand society.

Tea in Te Kuiti is the story of New Zealand and its relationship with the ‘Old country’ England. Inside this story they tell tales of the Suffrage movement who startled the world with their courage and paved the way for womens rights. The role New Zealand played in the World Wars, fighting battles so far from home, and how they worked to create their own national identity.

The trio utilise there unique style of delivery which incorporates storytelling, archival audio and images, and inventive instrumentation to bring alive the poetry and songs of New Zealand writers.

This show follows on from The Pioneers which has been touring successfully for the last two and a half years.

“Has to be the most original act I have ever seen”
